The fear of God

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:7

What is the fear of God, fear of God is the reverence and honor for God.

The fear of God makes a man wise but pride in a man makes him foolish and rebellious. When you have the fear of God in you, you won’t disregard the things of God.

Here are some scriptures on the fear of God

Proverbs 15:16

Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

Proverbs 15:33

The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

These are principles of the word of God which if adhered to makes a man prosperous.

People in the bible who had the fear of God

Daniel 3

Shedrach, Meshack and Abednego had the fear of God, they refused to worship the golden image that the king made and they were thrown into the fire, the fire was so hot but it did not burn them and afterwards they were promoted by the king who told his people to worship their God.

Genesis 39, 40, 41

Joseph, a slave in Egypt, his master Potiphar put everything he had in his care, while working as a slave in Egypt, the wife of his master told him to sleep with her, but he refused, she lied against him and he was put in prison. In prison, God was with him and he rose to power and God blessed him and gave him a family of his own because he honored God.

The consequences of dishonor for God

Dishonor for God could be shown by disrespect, disregard for those in authority.

There were youth in Elijah’s day who made mockery of him, Elijah called down bears who devoured them because they did not have the fear of God.

Herod, the king who gave glory to himself, when he spoke, the people said it is the voice of God not a man, God was angry and an angel of God smote him for giving glory to himself.

There are those that say those things happened in the bible days, but these things were written for us to learn and be instructed, God is still doing mighty things in our time, showing that he would not be disrespected and disregarded, and it would be wise to heed these warnings.

You may have been unruly, disregarding and dishonoring those in authority over you. You need to repent, ask God for forgiveness and let the spirit of the fear of God come upon you.

Honor your elders, submit to authority, if you’re a wife, honor your husband, husband love your wife, children obey your parents, workers be diligent and respectful Ephesians 6v1-5

Everywhere you go show honor and respect to people, be polite and courteous to people, simple words such as please and thank you are very important.
