Names are so important. Names represent prestige, honor, power and authority. The bible says that God has given to Jesus a name which is above all names. That at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Philippians 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Every person is a testimony to the kind of name he or she has and names have a lot to do with our destiny.
Every time God wants to promote a man, he gives that man a new name. Or when God wants to increase our fellowship and knowledge of him, he gives us a new name of himself e.g Yahweh, Jehovah Rapha, the Lord my healer. With that new name God gives to you, you are promoted into a higher walk with him. Your understanding of him is improved.
Even a young married woman of 18 years can no longer be referred to as a girl or a lady but as a woman. Her new position comes with a new name.
Every new position or title comes with a new name: Doctor, Professor etc. People study for years for that new name which represents an improvement on the quality of life. Its no wonder God changes the names of people especially when they have a calling from him.
Many great men in the bible had to have their names changed before they could function with God on the higher level of calling he was calling them to. Jacob once known as a swindler for grabbing his brothers hill at child birth struggled in life till God met him and changed his story for good.
Genesis 32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
Every person answers to the blessings on their names. For example you could have a name that seems to present itself as a barrier to your progress; anyone who is serious about making progress in life would need to receive a new name from God for a change of story.
What can a person do if they discover that their name might be affecting them? They can call on God like Jabez did.
I Chronic 4:10
Jabez knew that his name could hinder him. So he prayed to God to deliver him from the evil effects of his name. And God heard him.
Just as Jabez had a change of story for good, you too can call upon God and receive a new name that represents his divine promotion on your life !Hallelujah!
Isaiah 62:2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name.
