An attitude of repentance

Psalm 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow

God wants to forgive, but are we sorry? Do we even recognize when we have done wrong or are we busy focusing on the faults of others seeing only their mistakes but not ours.

David was a man after God’s heart. He was not a perfect man and he did not claim to be. But God gave this remarkable testimony of him and its important to understand that the way God thinks and the way he sees things is quite different from the way we see things.
When we understand God better we would not be in a hurry to judge others. We would learn to forgive, love others and trust in God.

If not for a man like David we would have felt like we had to be perfect or at least pretend to be, but David took us through a prayer that we can pray when we have sinned. He recognised his need for God, step by step, he asked God to cleanse him, not to take away the holy spirit from him, he did not act like it was okay. David was not better than Saul, but he knew how to run to God and ask for forgiveness, Jesus came from the lineage of David showing us that even though we may not always be perfect in our actions, we can have a heart that’s perfect towards God.

Thinking about it, in what areas have we offended God? Even if its something that no one knows about ? Where do we need to improve ? We can be free to pour our hearts to God, knowing he wont judge or condemn us when we ask for forgiveness but rather he would draw us closer to himself.

We need to have a soft and tender attitude towards God and his word, such that when we are confronted by his word, our attitude would be one of meekness, humility and repentance.

Prayer : I thank you God for a man like David, that could be sincere and humble to be confronted that he had sinned and he humbly asked for forgiveness, he prayed this prayer which we can all pray from time to time when we feel that we have offended God.

Psalms 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 51:13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

Praise GOD!
